Wooden Putter Questions
What is the head weight?
Great question! Wood is less dense than metal so if these putters were only wood, they would weight in the neighborhood of 100 grams - much too light. To overcome this, we carve internal pockets and epoxy in tungsten weights to bring the head weight to the proper range of 340-400 grams.
How do they feel and sound?
The best analogy I have is comparing the putters to wooden baseball bats. They are responsive, generally on the softer side, and have a pleasant sound upon striking. They feel like a soft steel putter. More firm than something like a white hot, but not clicky at all. I have grown to personally love the sound, and solid feel of the strikes.
What about the loft?
The putters are machines with usually 3--4 degrees of loft but this is somewhat variable. There may be a slight increase in cost to machine something specific as I would have to make new machining programs.
Durability?
In general, the putters have lasted well. We use premium hard woods, or stabilized woods when manufacturing these putters. The dense, hard nature of the wood lends it to be quite durable and resistant to the elements. That being said, it is not a block of titanium. Irons will definitely mark up the wood and it is essential to use a headcover when the putter is in your bag. If issues come up I will do my best to repair the problem. I offer free refinishing if the putter needs it after a season or two.
